I was hit by a very bad chocolate craving today! Even after a pack on M&M didn’t satisfy my craving. Then I remembered Ovenhaven’s delicious brownie and voila, here I am presenting my version of the brownie!

I can’t capture the actual colour of the brownies, they look darker in the pictures. Nevertheless, the recipe is a keeper, easy and delicious! After satisfying my craving, the rest are all packed for the girls tomorrow.

Gd mor Bernice!Sorie to bother u wif questions
Gd mor Bernice!Just some questions,need your advise.Is the flour juz plain or self-raising?I juz noticed no baking powder is used in this recipe.Did u find it too sweet wif one cup of sugar used?I intend to add in 1/2-1cup semi sweet choco chips & 1/2 cup toasted pine nuts
)
Tks
)
Regards,
Sasa
PS:sorie to bother u wif so many questions,i’m a new baker

Hi Sasa,
it’s ok, I asked a lot when I first started baking. In fact, I still have many question marks in my baking dictionary. You are welcome to ask any questions here.
Flour is simply plain flour. I will usually reduce some sugar (usually 10 to 20gm) coz I don’t have a sweet tooth. For this recipe, I used a little less than 1 cup but I believe 1 cup of sugar will not be too sweet.
I’m sure you can add in chocolate chips and nuts for the extra crunch. I’m not sure how pine nuts will taste with brownies but walnuts and brownies are perfect for me!

Bernice

Hello Bernice,
Tks for your words of encouragement.It is so nice of you to answer to my doubts abt baking.I finally baked the brownies.Hubby & kid ate and said it was gd(they were too generous wif their comments).I realised it was over baked bcos it was hard on the top and pretty crumbly.My dad said it was too dry & my mum said too hard & too sweet.I did cut down 50g for the sugar.No choco chips,only added 1 cup toasted chopped walnuts.Changed my mind abt the pinenut after reading ur reply earlier on.I have baked the brownies for abt 22mins.The edges were alittle burnt and the skewer came out only wif very little crumbs.Signs of over baking,isnt it?I am using a 23L table top oven.Next time should I reduce the baking time by 7mins?Nephews been asking for brownies and I hope to bake again tmr.Me stress…I pray I wont overbake AGAIN!One more thing,I m thinking of getting that Bluesky Breadmaker that you have gotten earlier on.Do you think this machine is gd enuff for a “lao ya” baker like me?haha…
Best regards,
Sasa
PS:Your oatmeal raisin cookies look yumz.always luv chewy cookies.

Ooops…one more doubt:Do you think I can omit the vanilla extract or juz reduced to a few drops?Would it affect the taste of the brownies?Tq

Hi Sasa,
you’re welcome. We all learnt through asking, isn’t it?
The recipe stated 25 minutes but of course, different oven works differently. Usually, I’ll eye-check at the 20th minute to prevent “burnt” parts. If the skewer inserted comes out with very little crumbs, it’s done as the brownie will continue to cook after taking out from the oven (since it’s been left in the tray to cool).
Yes yes, the breadmaker is good for anyone! I’m new with bread too and I think it’s a great help!
I think it’s fine if you omit the vanila extract. Unless you’re using the real good quality vanila extract, it don’t make much difference to the taste. I’m thinking of adding bailey the next time I make the brownie. Hee
And again, thanks for the compliments! All the best to your baking journey!
Cheers,
Bernice

Hi Bernice,
I will b more careful in checking the oven from the 15th mins.got to be abit more kiasu.lol
I did used my mum’s real good quality vanilla extract.she was asking me how much I hv used :O:D (dare not say 2tsp…juz a couple of drops & she was like hmmmm)
Bailey sounds gooooooooooood.Wat abt rum?haha…
Will go down to Carrefour coming Tue to get my breadmaker.Juz ditched my idea of getting that Kenwood brand.The price can get me 5 sets of Bluesky
Tks again & God bless.
Cheers,
Sasa
